The QTS Difference

Creating good jobs

QTS supports local economies by investing in communities, creating jobs and partnering with local suppliers.

Our data centers are long-term community investments – supporting local services, creating opportunities for small businesses and providing the infrastructure communities need to grow and thrive in a digital economy.

Job creation and local partnerships

QTS data centers generate significant local value through an expansive ecosystem of jobs, including employees of QTS and its tenants, as well as local construction workers, contractors and suppliers, including electrical, mechanical, security, maintenance and technology services.

QTS will support 40,000 high-paying jobs in the U.S. this year, with $150,000 average annual pay. This job figure is based on the projected peak onsite workers, QTS employees and additional jobs supported across contractors, suppliers and local economies.

QTS projects represent a long-term pledge to create thousands of constructions jobs and hundreds of full-time positions, supporting local supplies and businesses and partnering with local building trade unions.

For every job directly created by a data center, there are four to five other jobs that are supported elsewhere in the U.S. economy, according to a PwC report commissioned by the Data Center Coalition.

In 2024, the data center industry supported a total of 5.5 million jobs including direct, indirect and induced employment.

The study also found that the industry provided a total of $369 billion in fiscal support to federal, state and local governments over the two-year period from 2023 to 2024.

QTS partners with local contractors and suppliers who share our expectations for safety, quality and environmental stewardship. We aim to hire talent from local communities. The QTS Cambois, UK data center campus project is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs, with a commitment to filling 50% of the positions from the local area. Additionally, the project emphasizes a local supply chain, engaging regional experts in mechanical, electrical and construction services to support the development of the campus.

We also prioritize hiring veterans. We invest in workforce initiatives for veterans, who already make up 21% of our U.S. employee base. Since 2021, QTS has participated in the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge internship program to support service members as they transition to the corporate workforce.

Workforce development

QTS invests directly in building talent pipelines through our workforce development programs that create pathways into high-quality technology careers and strengthen local talent pipelines. We currently operate programs in Virginia, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois and Cambois, UK, with plans to expand into additional markets.

QTS partners with Maricopa Community Colleges in Phoenix, Arizona, to train local students through a new Data Center Operations certificate that combines base technician training with specialized data center courses.

Since 2010, QTS has partnered with the Year Up program, a nationwide, nonprofit workforce development organization that helps close the opportunity divide for aspiring young talent. QTS provides mentorship to interns and helps prepare them for successful careers and higher education. More than 60% of participating interns have transitioned to full-time roles at QTS since the program’s inception.
